Our mission is the preservation and interpretation of Shipshewana area history through publication, education, and collecting artifacts.

In 2000 a small group people came together all sharing a vision of preserving the history of Shipshewana.  Decendants of early settlers, as well as those who have chosen to make their homes in the area, shared their dreams, stories and pictures.  Together, and under thoughtful, continuing leadership, the Shipshewana Area Historical Society (SAHS) has become a respected resource in the history of the community.

SAHS holds many fundraising events throughout the year to support their musuem.  Annual Chicken Barbecues, Reminiscences Days, Garage Sales and more!  They also work closely with the area schools - teaching students of the history their community holds.

museum photos 1Every year the mseum has visitors and schools groups that visit!  Learning about our history, sitting in the school desks (feeling like a kid again), looking through all the photos and collection of items on display.  Everyone who visits leaves a little something behind.....

Have you visited our museum?  Share your experience with us!  Here are  "Experiences"  from  some of  our visitors........

SAHS meetings are held every 3rd Monday of the month - after having several locations as their temporary home.  The SAHS has come to rest in the Old Farver School located in the Historic section of Downtown Shipshewana.
